TRONO for 7 synthesizers and sequenced pianos
2026
Playing Time: [4’42]
TRONO, for 7 synthesizers and 7 sequenced pianos, extracts its core melodic and harmonic material from the haunting male choir in Akira Kurosawa's film "Kumonosu-jō" (lit. Spider’s Web Castle), a chant that functions as the narrative Voice of Destiny and stands as a direct heir to the Jiutai of Noh Theatre.
In this piece, which explores the dissolution of personal integrity through fatal ambition, the intervals of this vocal line provide the foundation for an electroacoustic architecture that sonically traces the arc from ambition's inception to its rise and catastrophic fall. The work unfolds through a relentless ascent of rapid scales, which inevitably fracture, begin to descend, and finally collapse into dense harmonic clusters and stumbling dissonances. These musical forms figuratively represent the violent clashes with reality and the existential void confronted by those who tread this path.
Thus, the piece constructs a contemporary sonic analogy. It mirrors the trajectory of today's great oppressive powers—anachronistic and mystically irrational forces that, in their fervent assault on order and trust—shattering the very ground upon which power might otherwise stand—paradoxically engineer their own inevitable ruin.
