Shifting Scenery for chamber ensemble
2026
Playing Time: [7’35]
Shifting Scenery is a set of three pieces that illustrate unique textural landscapes. The first piece, “Impetus”, begins with an impulse of energy that remains constant throughout the entire piece. The first rhythmic impulse creates a series of dynamically contrasting gestures, as if we were drawing wavy lines. It is like a chain reaction, a constant movement of erratic dots. “Discontinue” is a piece focused on agglutination and dilation of the density in the time of events. Lastly, “Disturbance” illustrates the total richness of the layered noises produced by different means and instruments in a big crescendo that culminates in a final landscape of high-frequency beating. It is as if a high-intensity white light illuminates over a total grey and dark canvas.
